Vestido pre-mamá – Maternity dress (from Plantain)

~~&~~

My first post from bed… I can’t remember the last time I got flu (maybe it was when I was little), but I just had to catch one now that (surprise!) I’m pregnant… brrrr…

Fotos de hace casi un mes - Pics from about a month ago...

~~&~~

Well, let’s get straight to the point…

I made the dress using the Plantain pattern for the bodice, just cutting it under the bust. Empire waist dresses are my favourite maternity ones, and I’ll be able to wear it after giving birth. Atatching the skirt (two rectangles) was very easy.

Some details I added: false button stand (with vintage buttons from grandma), cuffs (and hemline), and the belt for the back. All of them done with the reverse of the fabric. Oh, and the bodice is fully lined (but no pics of that, sorry).

I fell in love with the fabric when I saw it. It’s a knitted one, really warm but thin. What’s the name for that? Sweater jersey? It’s from the Moroccan local shop: 1,50€ / meter.

OneCardigan (Pattern test for Serger Pepper)

~~&~~

I feel like everytime I test a pattern for Irene (@ Serger Pepper) I must do an experiment… Like she says, my cardigan is actually a light coat…

~~&~~

I wanted to use sweater jersey to sew it at the beginning, but I didn’t have enough of it… So I changed my mind and I used this stretch jersey that looks a bit like denim as main fabric (I used for my jeggings, remember?), and the stars jersey as lining. The first one from the market the second one from a local shop.

~~&~~

The pattern has many details and can be sewn in different ways. That makes it very interesting. I did the regular hood, but you could sew a very funny pixie hood, or leave it hoodless for instance. You can choose to sew long sleeves, short ones or to do a sleeveless version. And I’ve seen a few alternatives to the belt among the testers, all they very nice.

You’ll find the pattern in the e-zine One Thimble. You can buy the whole magazine or only Irene’s pattern at the same place. Sizes range from 2 years to 16. And thanks to the PDF layer option you can print exactly the size you need, no need to waste ink and paper…

Carry Everywhere Shopping Bag (Pattern by Cucicucicoo)

~~&~~

Some time ago (I mean years!), I kept the fabric from a broken umbrella I’ve always seen at home, it belonged to my mum or grandma. I didn’t know what I would do with it, but I found it a pity to simply throw it away.

So, when I saw the testers call from Lisa (@ Cucicucicoo) for the Carry Everywhere Shopping Bag, a project to recycle umbrellas, I knew I had to be part of the crew!!

~~&~~

My umbrella was quite small, a compact, fold-up one, therefore is my bag a small one. I had to reduce the pattern about 75% when printing it. Recommended is a full-sized one, of course.

The pattern includes also instructions to sew the bag from a lightweight fabric. So, don’t worry if you don’t have any umbrellas around.

The fabric is easy to sew, a bit slippery maybe, and the pattern is really detailed and easy to follow.

~~&~~

The drawstring pouch is attached to the inside of the bag, so you'll never lose it. It's so compact and light that you can keep it inside your purse, ready for any shopping or emergency.

~~&~~

The pattern is available for free to download on Cucicucicoo, for people who sign up for her newsletter. You should take a look at the site, because it’s full of ecological sewing and crafting ideas.

~~&~~

Now I’m looking forward to find a big umbrella to disassemble! Watch out, if you bump into me on rainy days, your umbrella may be the perfect victim! ;-)

No hace falta doblarla para guardarla, naturalmente... - You don't really need to fold it to put it in the pouch

More Birthday Crowns! - Más coronas de cumpleaños! (free pattern & tutorial)

¡¡2 puntos a mi marcador!!

Y este es el resultado.

~~&~~

Just when I thought I wouldn’t do any more Birthday Crowns for a while, I was commissioned to do two of them for a 6- and an 8-year-old girl.

I must admit I was afraid they wouldn’t like them because they were pink and purple (not every girl likes these colors!). But the girls were very happy with them and I was told the crowns even matched the colors of their dresses that day!! 2 points for me!!

Well, this is the result.

~~&~~

So that they could use the crowns next year too, I also sewed the number 7. For the 9 they can just turn number 6 around.

~~&~~

Remember that the pattern for the crown is available here for free, so you can do your own! Just remember to share a picture of your version on my Flickr Group “Inspired by kuka & bubu”.
